Full moon is not only special to Koreans but also to me, it is more special due to the reason of its resemblance to my facial shape. Since I was little, I have often heard from others that my facial shape resembles a full moon. Also I am very fond of full moon not just because my face resembles the shape of it, but whenever I look up to full moon, I have never felt lonely and full moon means good luck to me and brings me comfort. It always makes me feel so happy to see the full moon. That is the reason why I embrace the idea of full moon to my work. Also I want audience to feel at ease and serene and meditative by looking at my work which I believe are the characteristics of Korean art.
보름달 시리즈를 통해 오늘날 소통이 없는 각박한 시대를 사는 현대인들에게 추석이나 정오 대보름이 아니더라도 달을 보며 마음의 안정을 찾고 소원을 빌어보는 시간을 마련해 주고 싶었다. 보름달은 동양과 서양에서 매우 다르게 해석된다. 동양에서 보름달은 굉장히 긍정적으로 여겨지지만, 서양에서 보름달은 매우 부정적으로 여겨진다. 하지만 나에게 있어서 보름달은 매우 친숙하고도(어릴 적부터 사람들은 동서양을 막론하고 내 얼굴을 보면 보름달이 떴다는 말을 했다.) 반가운 존재이다. 밤길을 걷다 우연히 마주친 보름달을 보면 지치고 힘들었던 기분들이 대부분 사라지곤 한다. '슈퍼문'은 내가 상상하는 슈퍼 사이즈인 달 속에 살만한 오래된 나무와 고양이, 파란 나비 그리고 비행기들로 이루어진 영상 작업이다. 이 작업은 하늘을 올려다보거나 거리에 단풍, 자연을 감상해 볼 여유조차 없이 바쁘게 살아가는 현대인들에게 선물 같은 작업이 되길 바라는 마음으로 거리(아스팔트 바닥) 위에 영상을 투영시켰다. 땅만 바라보고 걷는 현대인들에게 아스팔트 바닥 위에 보름달은 한 번쯤 하늘을 올려다보는 여유를 가져보라는 제안을 담은 작업이다.
