2022년 제주에서 거북이를 만들어 설치작업을 진행했고, 전시가 끝난 뒤 잔디밭에 재 설치되어 자연으로 돌아가는 과정이 기록될 예정이었다. 하지만 야외에 설치 된지 며칠 되지 않아 연예인의 출현에 몰려든 인파로 예상보다 일찍 사망하고 말았다. 이 사건을 뉴스속보형식으로 “검은 전사(Black Warrior)” 거북이 별명을 딴 방송국 BWB(Black Warrior Broadcasting) 꼬북이 리포터가 단독으로 전한다. 디지털 드로잉과 실사가 어우러진다. 본 작업을 통해 관객에게 자연과 우리 자신에 대해 돌아볼 수 있는 시간을 제공하고, 아이러니하게도 인간에 의해 희생당하고 아파하는 동물을 돕고 살릴 수 있는 것 또한 인간이라는 것을 이야기하고 싶었다.
In 2022, the artist created a turtle sculpture installation in Jeju. After the exhibition ended, this work was reinstalled on a lawn in front of the gallery, where the process of returning to nature was intended to be documented. However, only a few days after, the work was unexpectedly destroyed far earlier than anticipated due to a large crowd that gathered following the appearance of a celebrity.
This incident is reported in the form of a breaking news broadcast by BWB (Black Warrior Broadcasting), delivered exclusively by a turtle reporter nicknamed “Black Warrior.” The work combines digital drawing with live-action footage to construct a fictional news narrative.
Through this piece, the artist seeks to offer viewers a moment to reflect on nature and on ourselves. At the same time, the work speaks to the irony that while animals are often harmed and sacrificed by human actions, it is also humans who possess the capacity to protect, help, and save them.
