이 작업을 통해서 생성과 소멸을 표현하고 생명의 선 순환과 우리가 살고 있는 생태에 대해 생각해 볼 수 있는 기회가 되길 바란다. 바다거북이는 알을 낳을 때만 육지에 올라온다. 제주 중문 해수욕장에 오던 거북이들은 사람들 때문에 더 이상 육지로 올라오지 못한다. 그리고 온도에 민감한 거북이들은 지구온난화로 인해 더 이상 수컷을 찾아보기가 힘들다고 한다. 이 작업 속 거북이들은 전시가 끝나고 나면 자연으로 돌려보내진다. 거북이가 바다에 서식하기도 하고 물과 밤을 상징하는 동물이기에 “검정 전사”라고 불린다고 한다.

Through this work, I hope to create an opportunity to reflect on creation and disappearance, the virtuous cycle of life, and the ecosystem in which we live. Sea turtles come ashore only to lay their eggs. However, the turtles that once visited Jungmun Beach in Jeju are no longer able to return to the land due to human presence and disturbance. Moreover, as turtles are highly sensitive to temperature, global warming has made it increasingly difficult for male turtles to be born.

In this work, the turtles are returned to nature after the exhibition ends. As creatures that inhabit the sea and symbolize both water and night, turtles are sometimes referred to as “Black Warriors.” Through this symbolism, the work speaks to the fragile balance between humans, non-human beings, and the natural world.
