소꿉놀이에서 영감을 얻은 “배작소 식당(배고픈 작가들과 소꿉놀이하는 식당)” 은 섬유 미술을 전공한 최민경 작가와 협업(식탁보, 그릇받침대)으로 진행했다. 대구에서 레지던시를 하면서 처음으로 먹게 된 햇반 그릇들을 이용한 작업으로, 각각의 그릇들에 음식 이미지를 입히고 색칠하여 직접 먹을 수는 없지만 눈이 배부른 그릇 속 음식들을 만들었다. 이 작업은 실제로 작가들이 식당 종업원으로 분하여 관객과 함께 소꿉식당놀이로 두 차례 진행되었다.

Baejagso Restaurant (A Restaurant Where Hungry Artists Play House) is a collaborative project inspired by children’s play kitchen games. The work was created in collaboration with textile artist Min-kyung Choi, who contributed elements such as tablecloths and placemats. Using instant rice bowls that I ate for the first time while participating in a residency in Daegu, I transformed each bowl by applying and painting images of food. Although the food cannot be eaten, the bowls are filled with dishes meant to satisfy the eyes rather than the stomach.

This project was activated twice as a participatory performance, in which the artists themselves took on the roles of restaurant staff and invited audiences to join in a playful, imaginary dining experience together.

최근 우리나라에서 가장 이슈가 되고 있는 것 중 하나는 먹방이다. 지난 10년간 내가 먹었던 음식 사진들을, 다 먹고난 햇반 그릇에 입히고 채색하였다. 그리고 그 그릇들을 벽면에 설치하고 그 앞에 마치 최후의 만찬을 연상시키는 긴 식탁을 세팅했다. 이 작업은 식당을 주제로 한 두 번째 작업으로 수많은 플라스틱사용으로 인해 죽음을 당하는 동물들을 기리고자 식욕을 떨어뜨리는 색상인 파란색을 주요색으로 정했다.

One of the most prominent cultural phenomena in Korea today is mukbang—the broadcast of eating. In this work, I applied and painted photographs of food I consumed over the past ten years onto empty instant rice bowls after the meals were finished. These bowls were then installed on the wall, with a long table set in front of them, evoking the imagery of The Last Supper.

This piece is the second work in my series themed around restaurants. To commemorate animals that have died as a result of excessive plastic consumption, I chose blue—the color known to suppress appetite—as the dominant hue. Through this visual strategy, the work invites reflection on consumption, desire, and the unseen costs embedded in everyday acts of eating.

작가와 지역민이 함께 만든 우리동네 인생밥상 메뉴판

〈우동인식당〉은 ‘은평의 얼굴’전에서 은평구의 식(食) 문화에 주목한 관객 참여형 전시로, 작가의 기존 식당 시리즈의 연장선에 있다. 작가는 은평구의 식당들을 직접 방문해 음식을 기록하고, 음식 이미지를 재활용 햇반 그릇에 입혀 전시한다. 이와 함께 은평구 주민 인터뷰와 먹방, 작업 영상이 함께 상영된다.

전시장에서는 관객이 벽면에 설치된 음식 그릇들 중 마음에 드는 것을 골라 테이블 위 트레이에 올려 자신만의 밥상을 구성하고, 이를 사진으로 기록해 SNS에 공유하는 방식으로 참여한다. 전시에는 주민들이 직접 그린 음식 이미지와 작가의 음식 기록이 함께 포함되어, 전시 이후에도 SNS 아카이브로 확장된다.

전시는 추억의 음식과 기억에 남는 밥상을 주제로 하며, 따뜻함과 소통을 상징하는 노란색을 메인 컬러로 사용한다. 공간은 식당처럼 구성되어 관객이 앉아 머물며 자연스럽게 참여할 수 있도록 설계되었다.

 

<Udongin Restaurant> is a participatory work presented as part of the exhibition <The Face of Eunpyeong>, focusing on the food culture of Eunpyeong-gu and extending the artist’s ongoing restaurant series. The artist visited local eateries throughout Eunpyeong, documenting meals and presenting food images applied to recycled instant rice bowls. These are accompanied by interviews with local residents, mukbang footage, and documentation of the artistic process.

In the exhibition space, viewers are invited to select food bowls installed on the wall and place them onto trays on the table to compose their own personal meal setting. Participants then photograph their arrangements and share them on social media, actively contributing to the exhibition. The show incorporates food images drawn by local residents alongside the artist’s own records, allowing the project to continue and expand as a social media archive beyond the exhibition period.

Centered on nostalgic foods and memorable meals, yellow was chosen as its main color, symbolizing warmth and communication. The space is designed like a restaurant, encouraging visitors to sit, linger, and engage with the work in a relaxed and participatory manner.
