Back from the Future 시리즈는 이미 소멸된 존재들을 홀로그램 기법을 통해 현시점으로 소환하는 작업이다. 미래의 기술력을 이용해, 소멸되기 전 존재들을 불러오는 과정을 무한히 반복하며, 그들이 사라지기 전의 마지막 순간을 현재의 시간 속에서 재현한다.

비둘기와 길고양이는 도시에서 흔히 볼 수 있지만 늘 주변부로 밀려나고, 때로는 혐오와 배척의 대상으로 여겨진다. 길고양이는 때로는 사랑받는 존재이지만, 또 다른 순간에는 도시의 불청객으로 간주되고, 비둘기는 ‘평화의 상징’으로도, ‘도시의 해충’으로도 불린다.

작업에서 홀로그램으로 재현된 비둘기와 길고양이는 소멸의 순간과 현재를 오가지만, 실체가 없는 빛의 형상일 뿐이다. 나는 그들의 부재를 역설적으로 드러내며, 그들이 과거에도 현재에도 우리의 공간 속에 존재했음을 시각적으로 환기시키고자 한다. 이 작업은 소멸을 거듭하는 존재들에 대한 애도이자, 그들을 기억함으로써 해방시키고자 하는 나의 소망이다.

 

<Back from the Future series> summons beings that have already disappeared from the present moment through holographic techniques. Using imagined future technologies, the work endlessly repeats the act of calling back these souls just before their disappearance, recreating their final moments within the time of the present.

Pigeons and stray cats are common sights in the city, yet they are consistently pushed to the margins and often regarded with aversion or exclusion. Stray cats may be loved at times, only to be dismissed as unwanted intruders at others, while pigeons are alternately labeled as symbols of peace or as urban pests.

In this work, the pigeons and stray cats reappear as holograms, moving between the moment of disappearance and the present. However, they exist only as immaterial forms of light. By foregrounding their absence through these luminous images, I seek to paradoxically evoke their presence—reminding viewers that these beings once occupied, and still haunt, our shared spaces. This work is both an act of mourning for lives repeatedly erased and an expression of my desire to release them through remembrance.
